Izabal Nickel Mine - Logistical and Social Project
In the middle of a tropical forest, on the banks of a large lake, lies one of the world's largest nickel deposits. When the entire area, until then essentially uninhabited, was equipped for mining and the construction of a large industrial plant for processing the raw material, the logistical challenge was overwhelming. Roads, harbours, airports, a veritable city were needed to accommodate the thousands of workers and technicians needed to realise one of the largest investments in the history of indsutrial extraction. In this large project, we studied and analysed the logistical processes, architectural realisations and elements of social architecture for the serene coexistence of a large community built in an 'artificial' manner but with human, everyday needs and desires.
